Engagement
We got engaged on Sunday 28th December 2008. Graham (ever the romantic) proposed to Polly whilst in a car park! This was no ordinary car park. It was at Blarney Castle, home to the Blarney Stone.
Graham had the proposal planned for over two months. Graham led Polly to believe that it would happen in January 2009 (our anniversary), so she was completely shocked when it happened.
Walking around the Blarney Castle gardens after Graham had kissed the Blarney Stone (Polly wimped out), Graham was frantically looking for a quiet spot to do the deed. Could it have been at the Wishing Steps, the Witches Kitchen, the Rock Garden or the Coffee Shop? No way, it was too cold and wet, Graham didn't want to get his jeans dirty, otherwise Polly would complain that there would be even more washing! We couldn't find anywhere warm and dry to have our coffee, so we headed for the car to defrost.
Graham chose the moment when Polly was faffing around taking her coat off for the long journey back to Dublin. Graham called her and when she turned around he said the magic words "Will you marry me"? Polly was speechless for once just staring at the ring trying to understand what was happening such was her shock!
Polly eventually remembered to say yes!
We then called family and friends from the car park which took two hours!! Walking around a Blarney Woollen Mills we missed the ground floor as we were both glued to our mobiles with the incoming text messages and calls.
Our engagement party for our friends was on 31st January 2009. With thanks to Nigel and Emma for lending us their house to host it. Thanks to all our friends for making it a wonderful and memorable evening.
